a Roman copy of a Hellenistic painting. Decorated
the floor of a room in the House of the Faun in
Pompeii. It depicts the Battle of the Granicus,
which took place in the early summer of 334 BCE.
It was the first victory won by Alexander the
Great in his invasion of the Persian Empire.
